Exploring the gospel principles of earth stewardship

Theme for June: Get Outside!

LDS Theme: My Heavenly Father Loves Me

Use the children’s primary song My Heavenly Father Loves Me to discuss the wonder of creation, fathers, and the great love our Heavenly Father has for us. He made this world for our experience and pleasure. Let us be awed and grateful. Let us share this love and gratitude with others and preserve this world for our children to experience.

Environmental Theme: Get Outside!

It’s hard to pull the kids away from the great outdoors once they get a taste of it.

It’s a lot easier to care about the environment if you’ve spent some time in it. Walk through your neighborhood. Help a neighbor with yard work. Pause from your own work to talk with them as they pass by. Go for a hike, a swim. Go fishing. Play in the sandbox with your kids. Help clean up at your local park. LDS ES Group Activity: We will be hosting a series of hikes this summer and fall with Clint Whipple. Clint teaches the plant identification course at BYU with a morning hike each month.

This month we will start on June 29th at 8 a.m. in Rock Canyon in Provo. Come with your family and learn about the plants in the canyon. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection.

Hiking in Rock Canyon

If you would like a challenge for your summer, you can take the  Walking to Zion Challenge. This is currently set up as a 5 week program, but you are welcome to adapt it to your individual, family or ward needs. It was a great experience when our ward did this as an ongoing activity sponsored by the Primary, but you adapt the program in any way that is useful for you.
