Merikay Smith (Board Member) has served on the LDSES Board since 2016, focusing on developing local chapters including launching the first LDSES Chapter, LDSES Mid-Atlantic. As a Master Gardener since 2017, Merikay frequently teaches others sustainable gardening practices and speaks at events such as the West Virginia Master Gardener state conference and Maryland Master Gardener state training. Merikay has also served on the boards of the Seneca Creek Watershed Partners and Muddy Branch Alliance and leads a tree give-away project, planting 4,000+ native trees in her watershed. Merikay’s husband, Jeff, is a helpful partner who has learned to enjoy sharing Merikay’s passion for earth stewardship. They are also parents of a daughter and son, and grandparents.
