Teresa Gómez, MA (Vice Chair of Outreach) was born and raised in Mexico City, where growing up amidst the challenges of urban life—particularly persistent air quality issues—shaped her deep commitment to environmental stewardship and cultural awareness. With a background in geography and a master’s degree in wildlife conservation, she brings both scientific insight and lived experience to her role as director of the Geospatial Lab at the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU. There, she leads a team of students in using mapping technologies to support research across disciplines. For Teresa, maps are powerful tools for storytelling and discovery—she often says, “A map is worth a billion words,” reflecting her belief in their potential to illuminate complex issues and inspire action. Teresa enjoys nurturing over a hundred houseplants, cooking (with a special love for tacos), and spending time outdoors with her family and dog.
